Support theatre in our local schools and head out to Liberty High School in Clarksburg this weekend to catch a performance of “Back To The 80’s… The Totally Awesome Musical!”

The production, presented by the Liberty High School Theatre Department, is comprised of a cast of 34 students and a crew of 14 students, and includes freshman through senior students.

“It’s one of the largest ensemble pieces that we’ve done. Every character gets their time to shine,” said Lynne Davis, the play sponsor and producer. “The show really focuses on the group as a whole.”

“Back To The 80’s” tells the story of the senior class of William Ocean High School that graduated in the 1980’s, as remembered and seen through the eyes of Corey Palmer, who is now in his 30s.

Over 20 songs from the 1980s are featured in the musical, including “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” and “Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car,” as well as references to popular 80s movies “Karate Kid,” “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” “Star Wars,” and more.

The production’s director is Laura Meese, along with Tom Day as the music director. Bethany Winters serves as the student director and was responsible for six scenes in the production.

Performances will be at the school on Friday and Saturday at 7:30PM, and Sunday at 2PM. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door. Proceeds from the performances will support the theatre program at the school and help upgrade equipment needed for productions.
