The Community of Broadway wishes to announce the Ribbon Joining Ceremony for their Community Garden on June 25th at 11am. The garden is located in the 1300 Block of E Main Street.

They will be providing hot dogs and chili, snacks and water bottles. Mr. Herrod from Robert C. Byrd High School will be on hand to teach the children the basics of gardening. Children will be able to plant a seed of a flower or vegetable of their choice to take home with them.

The Broadway Community Garden started with a grant from the Try This WV Foundation, which was facilitated via the Harrison County Family Resource Network. From the inception of the idea there has been an outpouring of positive feedback and support.

Community Garden organizer Tracy Karle stated, “This has truly been a community project. The children are excited to plant and water and cannot wait to harvest the vegetables. The younger children painted the boxes while the teenagers spray painted the bench and wood pallets.” She continued, “Some women in our neighborhood have volunteered their time to teach the techniques of canning to many who have expressed an interest in it. This community garden has opened up new avenues to connect all ages in our community.”
