The Harrison County Historical Society is sponsoring a bus trip to the Senator John Heinz History Center on March 20, 2017. The day’s activities include an Orientation to Family Archives workshop, self-guided tour of the Heinz Center, and a stop at Sarris’ Candies on the way home. Up to 30 people may reserve a spot for $36 which includes a box lunch by contacting HCHS by March 3.

“We are very thrilled to sponsor this trip during our 50th anniversary year,” said Executive Director, Crystal Wimer. “Not only will attendees get to visit a top-notch museum, but they will also learn from a leading institution in document preservation.”

Barb Conner, Conservation Services Manager at the Heinz Center, will present the workshop, and guide participants through identifying, handling, organizing and storing paper documents to ensure the best care both now and for future generations. The workshop uses real-world examples such as birth certificates, passports, and family letters to demonstrate how to best preserve these materials.

The Harrison County Historical Society is a volunteer-based nonprofit that engages with our community by preserving, collecting, educating, and demonstrating the history and culture of Harrison County and North-Central West Virginia.
