A new consignment shop is coming to downtown Clarksburg this week. Opening its doors to customers on Tuesday at 10 AM, Kidzcycle Consignment LLC, has been accepting items since early August in preparation for its grand opening. The newest addition to West Main Street allows savvy parents to bring in gently used clothing and accessories – everything from maternity and newborn through teen – and let Kidzcycle do the work of finding them a new home. After the items are sold, a portion of the sale comes back to you.
For owner Amy Skiviat, the store combines an interest in consignment and a desire for flexibility that being her own boss allows. A mother to eight, Skiviat commented, “I love to work, and I need to make an income, but I hated feeling like both a part-time mom and part-time employee.” Amy believes that the store will benefit area families by making quality, name brand clothes available at great prices. “Let’s stop killing ourselves having yard sales and actually get something out of our kid’s clothing and toys.” When you bring your items in to Kidzcycle, Skiviat will work to ensure the best price for you. Consignors receive 40% of the selling price, for which they can receive in-store credit or cash. After 120 days in the shop, items that have not sold will be donated. That part of the store’s mission is especially important to Skiviat and her family. Amy and her husband nearly doubled the size of their family when they became foster parents to four children and prevented the separation of the siblings. About eight months ago, they made the adoption final. “More than anything else, I’m committed to giving anything that isn’t sold to needy families: families in hardship, foster families, and kids that fall under the radar and need help,” said Skiviat.
Be sure to check out Kidzcycle Consignment at 306 W. Main Street to shop or consign. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held during the grand opening on Tuesday, September 1 at 1PM, and the shop will be open Monday through Friday 10AM – 4PM, and Saturdays 10AM – 2PM.
