The Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center will host the 2nd Annual Welcome Home Celebration on Saturday, August 27, for all veterans and their families. The event, which is an effort to educate veterans about the services offered by the VA and to sincerely thank them for their bravery, commitment, and service, will take place at the Sycamore Shelter at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Clarksburg.

The Welcome Home Celebration will feature a variety of vendors from area businesses and organizations, an antique car show, and an Honor Guard Ceremony. The Patriot Guard Riders, an organization made of about 500 people that celebrate the lives of the U.S. military members, will also be in attendance.

But perhaps most importantly, there will be plenty of information shared with the veterans about healthcare, benefits, community resources, and other support offered to war veterans and their families who are just transitioning out of the service or even years removed.

The event kicks off at 10:00 a.m. with an opening ceremony. However, free yoga instruction in the park will take place before the event at 9:00 a.m. Lunch will be provided for Welcome Home Celebration attendees. Again, all veterans and their family members are invited to attend this free event to learn about the VA’s services and to receive a proper thank you and ‘welcome home’ from the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center.

Vendors that will be on hand at the celebration include:

  • Sam’s Club
  • Guitars 4 Vets
  • American Red Cross
  • Antique Car Club
  • Vietnam Vets of America
  • Warriors in the Field, Ltd.
  • WVU Veteran’s Rep
  • YMCA
